‘The president wanted members to know that he had this money and that he would be willing to use it against them’

RUSH EXCERPT:
MESSERLY: "It really. Was this combination. Yes. For all the denials that there. Were any sticks involved. You know, one of the big threats that the White House was, was using, you know, in a White House official told me this, you know, it was no coincidence that, you know, Trump’s political operation announced that it had this $1.4 billion war chest ahead of the midterm elections the week before this vote came down. Right. You know, the president wanted members to know that he had this money and that he would be willing to use it against them. So that was absolutely the stick that was there present in in conversations. But the carrot obviously was was crucial to sort of bringing these folks along, you know, especially negotiating with the house Freedom Caucus. There were a lot of assurances, given that provisions of the legislation would be bolstered through executive action. They’ll say that, you know, the White House and members themselves have been a little mum on sort of what exactly what promises were made. But it’s going to be really interesting to see how that comes out and how that plays out in the next couple of weeks."
