Malibu City Councilmember on California Wildfires: ‘We Knew this Was Coming’

‘It’s like an earthquake, you had a tremor and now you have the big one and it’s devastating’

EXCERPT:

CONRAD: “The very latest for Malibu is that we have lighter winds, which is in our favor, thank God. I just got out of the huge stakeholders meeting, which they have. The communication is amazing. The amount of people and boots on the ground I’m impressed by. I think that we’re going to have a break so Palisades can get some much needed relief, but we’re not out of the woods because there’s a huge Santa Ana coming back again starting this weekend. I did a ride along yesterday with a fireman and the devastation is unbelievable. I cannot believe what I — what I’m dealing with. I was sworn in on December 9th and not two hours later was the Franklin Fire, which, you know, we got lucky with that one. And I mean, I never want to say lucky, but we knew this was coming. We knew it was just — we were waiting. It’s like an earthquake. You had a little tremor and now we’ve got the big one and it’s devastating.”
