Ocasio-Cortez: ‘Very Real Risk’ U.S. Democracy Won’t Exist in 10 Years

cortez ░░░░░░░░ one of the most ░░░░░░░░ progressives in Washington It ░░░░░░░░ started with her shocking ░░░░░░░░ of a long time ░░░░░░░░ in a New York ░░░░░░░░ that includes parts of ░░░░░░░░ in the bronx that ░░░░░░░░ all back in the ░░░░░░░░ eighteen democratic primary When ░░░░░░░░ cortez was a strong ░░░░░░░░ of the green new ░░░░░░░░ and Medicare for all ░░░░░░░░ ocasio cortez is not ░░░░░░░░ among Democrats in those ░░░░░░░░ but as a member ░░░░░░░░ the house she stood ░░░░░░░░ her questions during committee ░░░░░░░░ often go viral and ░░░░░░░░ is a real master ░░░░░░░░ social media and she ░░░░░░░░ also a lightning rod ░░░░░░░░ criticism from Fox News ░░░░░░░░ other conservative outlets to ░░░░░░░░ almost frenzied and strange ░░░░░░░░ but with her party ░░░░░░░░ razor thin majorities in ░░░░░░░░ now endangered many of ░░░░░░░░ priorities seem out of ░░░░░░░░ I spoke with al ░░░░░░░░ ocasio cortez earlier this ░░░░░░░░ much of the by ░░░░░░░░ administration s agenda in ░░░░░░░░ has pretty much stalled ░░░░░░░░ they are razor thin ░░░░░░░░ in the house and ░░░░░░░░ and a term that ░░░░░░░░ with at least lofty ░░░░░░░░ are like ambitions is ░░░░░░░░ at a standstill How ░░░░░░░░ you rate the president ░░░░░░░░ performance after a here ░░░░░░░░ I think there are ░░░░░░░░ things are outside of ░░░░░░░░ control and you simply ░░░░░░░░ t Adam there s ░░░░░░░░ s very little One ░░░░░░░░ say about that You ░░░░░░░░ with young man chan ░░░░░░░░ as their air cinema ░░░░░░░░ I I I think ░░░░░░░░ are some things within ░░░░░░░░ president s control and ░░░░░░░░ hesitant getting a ░░░░░░░░ into analysis paralysis and ░░░░░░░░ don t have much ░░░░░░░░ and and I think ░░░░░░░░ we should really it ░░░░░░░░ take this present political ░░░░░░░░ for granted and and ░░░░░░░░ everything that we can ░░░░░░░░ I think that at ░░░░░░░░ beginning of last year ░░░░░░░░ of us ah in ░░░░░░░░ progressive wing but not ░░░░░░░░ the progressive wing I ░░░░░░░░ I think over overall ░░░░░░░░ a little bit with ░░░░░░░░ Obama I think we ░░░░░░░░ seeing this dynamic perhaps ░░░░░░░░ a little bit into ░░░░░░░░ Biden Administration with a ░░░░░░░░ to use executive power ░░░░░░░░ The president has not ░░░░░░░░ using his executive power ░░░░░░░░ the extent that s ░░░░░░░░ would say as necessary ░░░░░░░░ would you move from ░░░░░░░░ would you move first ░░░░░░░░ where would you move ░░░░░░░░ forcefully And effectively do ░░░░░░░░ in terms of executive ░░░░░░░░ I mean I ve ░░░░░░░░ think that than one ░░░░░░░░ the single most impactful ░░░░░░░░ at present biting can ░░░░░░░░ is as talking about the executive ░░░░░░░░ of the executive powers ░░░░░░░░ the president has has ░░░░░░░░ I don t think ░░░░░░░░ there s any guarantee ░░░░░░░░ don t know if ░░░░░░░░ s any avenue in ░░░░░░░░ of getting something through ░░░░░░░░ Joe mansion and kirsten ░░░░░░░░ will approve of that ░░░░░░░░ significantly a materially improve ░░░░░░░░ the lives of working ░░░░░░░░ And I mean it ░░░░░░░░ a bit of a ░░░░░░░░ assessments But I think ░░░░░░░░ given an analysis of ░░░░░░░░ past behavior There is ░░░░░░░░ fair one and in ░░░░░░░░ think that the president ░░░░░░░░ a responsibility from the media ░░░░░░░░ so there s this ░░░░░░░░ that the president can ░░░░░░░░ quote unquote can t ░░░░░░░░ things done And that ░░░░░░░░ presidency is at risk ░░░░░░░░ it s just all ░░░░░░░░ this you know ed ░░░░░░░░ I thought to be ░░░░░░░░ a lot of sensationalism ░░░░░░░░ the ramifications of that ░░░░░░░░ re being very deeply ░░░░░░░░ and you have people ░░░░░░░░ tough races and it ░░░░░░░░ just he needs a ░░░░░░░░ He needs a when ░░░░░░░░ so I m sitting ░░░░░░░░ In a group with ░░░░░░░░ most powerful people the ░░░░░░░░ in the country talking ░░░░░░░░ how if we pass ░░░░░░░░ infrastructure bill right now ░░░░░░░░ this will be what ░░░░░░░░ president can campaign on ░░░░░░░░ American people will give ░░░░░░░░ credit for he can ░░░░░░░░ his presidency on that ░░░░░░░░ we don t pass ░░░░░░░░ now then we risk ░░░░░░░░ itself Not about the ░░░░░░░░ agenda who s who ░░░░░░░░ who s just as ░░░░░░░░ s in the room ░░░░░░░░ you said the most ░░░░░░░░ people in the country ░░░░░░░░ re talking about everybody ░░░░░░░░ the loot I m ░░░░░░░░ in leadership to folks ░░░░░░░░ are in tough seats ░░░░░░░░ all elected officials in ░░░░░░░░ Democratic Party on the ░░░░░░░░ level and you know ░░░░░░░░ really just talk themselves ░░░░░░░░ thinking that passing the ░░░░░░░░ plan on that day ░░░░░░░░ that week is the ░░░░░░░░ singular important decision of ░░░░░░░░ presidency More than voting ░░░░░░░░ more than the actual ░░░░░░░░ Back Better act itself ░░░░░░░░ the vast majority of ░░░░░░░░ actual president s plan ░░░░░░░░ than more than anything ░░░░░░░░ if you know you ░░░░░░░░ kind of in the ░░░░░░░░ and you re just ░░░░░░░░ You know Watching people ░░░░░░░░ themselves up into a ░░░░░░░░ is a fascinating psychological ░░░░░░░░ that you re watching ░░░░░░░░ and it s not ░░░░░░░░ say that all these ░░░░░░░░ that they re saying ░░░░░░░░ a hundred percent false ░░░░░░░░ to come from A ░░░░░░░░ that is often discounted ░░░░░░░░ many different ways because ░░░░░░░░ you know these are ░░░░░░░░ Democrats like what she ░░░░░░░░ to say Does it ░░░░░░░░ et cetera What Does ░░░░░░░░ know about this current ░░░░░░░░ moment and the thing ░░░░░░░░ s unfortunate that I ░░░░░░░░ a lot if people ░░░░░░░░ yet to recognize is ░░░░░░░░ The motivations and the ░░░░░░░░ and the sense of ░░░░░░░░ It and faith in ░░░░░░░░ democracy and governance from ░░░░░░░░ and communities like mine ░░░░░░░░ determine majorities and they ░░░░░░░░ determine the outcomes of ░░░░░░░░ races and presidential races ░░░░░░░░ When you have a ░░░░░░░░ house when you have ░░░░░░░░ Senate constructed the way ░░░░░░░░ it is when you ░░░░░░░░ a presidency that relies ░░░░░░░░ the Electoral College in ░░░░░░░░ fashion that it does ░░░░░░░░ re in this room ░░░░░░░░ you see that all ░░░░░░░░ these people who are ░░░░░░░░ really are truly represent ░░░░░░░░ of our current political ░░░░░░░░ our current political system ░░░░░░░░ designed to revolve around ░░░░░░░░ very narrow band of ░░░░░░░░ who are overall materially ░░░░░░░░ And it does not ░░░░░░░░ around the majority you ░░░░░░░░ to free earlier in ░░░░░░░░ midst of this If ░░░░░░░░ have a democracy Ten ░░░░░░░░ from now ░░░░░░░░ books that have come ░░░░░░░░ whoop What will happen ░░░░░░░░ bring us home to ░░░░░░░░ Oh degraded point if ░░░░░░░░ humans Well I think ░░░░░░░░ has started But it ░░░░░░░░ not You know it ░░░░░░░░ not beyond hope for ░░░░░░░░ beyond hope but we ░░░░░░░░ already seen the opening ░░░░░░░░ of this where you ░░░░░░░░ a very targeted specific ░░░░░░░░ on the right to ░░░░░░░░ in across the United ░░░░░░░░ but in particular in ░░░░░░░░ where republic Empower power ░░░░░░░░ threatened over both changing ░░░░░░░░ and demographics You have ░░░░░░░░ know White nationalist reactionary ░░░░░░░░ starting to grow into ░░░░░░░░ critical mass and so ░░░░░░░░ we have is the ░░░░░░░░ sophistication and takeover of ░░░░░░░░ democratic systems in order ░░░░░░░░ turn them into on ░░░░░░░░ systems in order to ░░░░░░░░ results That That a ░░░░░░░░ in power may not ░░░░░░░░ and your concern is ░░░░░░░░ we will look like ░░░░░░░░ nation anybody can eat ░░░░░░░░ nation in particular I ░░░░░░░░ we will look like ░░░░░░░░ I think we will ░░░░░░░░ to Jim Crow I ░░░░░░░░ that s what we ░░░░░░░░ losing called man This ░░░░░░░░ Jim Crow Her with ░░░░░░░░ What s the scenario ░░░░░░░░ that happening Well you ░░░░░░░░ you have it all ░░░░░░░░ happening in Texas where ░░░░░░░░ Crow style Disenfranchisement laws ░░░░░░░░ already been proposed I ░░░░░░░░ you had members the ░░░░░░░░ legislature just a few ░░░░░░░░ ago flee the state ░░░░░░░░ order to prevent voting ░░░░░░░░ from being pass We ░░░░░░░░ talking about add Florida ░░░░░░░░ you had the entire ░░░░░░░░ vote to allow people ░░░░░░░░ were released from pre ░░░░░░░░ t to be reinforced ░░░░░░░░ after the have served ░░░░░░░░ debt to society and ░░░░░░░░ that s essentially being ░░░░░░░░ with poll taxes with ░░░░░░░░
