Peter Baker: Trump Admin Wants to Make the Federal Workforce Smaller, They Don’t Care If It’s Efficient

‘They fired the people who were protecting us from Ebola’

EXCERPT:

BAKER: “Well, look, when they use the word efficiency, what they mean is smaller, right? What they mean is, you know, we’re going to trim the workforce, we’re going to trim these agencies. We’re going to even get rid of some agencies. And whether it causes some inefficiencies along the way, that doesn’t really concern them very much. What they want is the image of Elon Musk with the chainsaw out there, that he’s taking a chainsaw to a bloated, you know, government that has making up, you know, payments to 160-year-old Social Security recipients. Doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. It’s a great message. You heard the president repeat that in his joint session speech to Congress, even though it’s already been debunked. They’ve had multiple examples, as you just said, of making a quick decision and having to reverse it because it didn’t turn out to be right.”
