Campos-Duffy: Identity Politics Are Now Being Injected into Our Children’s Lives So Parents Have to Take Charge

‘As a mother you can control the narrative in the household’

RUSH EXCERPT:

CAMPOS-DUFFY: ">> I thought a lot about it first of all, I believe that art isn’t just meant to suit us or to make us sore. Sometimes arts meant to be there to help us grapple with difficult things, painful things in this case about our own American history. What I try to do is tell my kids, look, communities have to decide and not mobs. These things should be left up to their communities and if these statues cause pain to people in the community, that community needs to decide whether that statue is worth it or not. What I found though is I have really said we need to back up for our kids at least I think so much identity politics has been injected into our children’s lives. We used to talk about the melting pot when I was a kid. That’s now offensive. Now it’s the salad bowl. There is so much emphasis what divides us in the name of diversity is what they call it. I think we need as parents and grandparents because we can’t depend on schools and the media and Hollywood. If we start at that point we can have these conversations with a lot more love. Todd: You raised a great point talking about schools. As a mother can you control the narrative in the household. We are starting a new school year. What is going to be the narrative that our students are getting for the schools when we went to school we had history books. Those history books articulated what happened and didn’t white wash things. We knew what the facts were. What is going to happen with kids."
