Johnny Depp: ‘When Was the Last Time an Actor Assassinated the President?’

Johnny Depp Asks British Festival Crowd: ‘When Was the Last Time an Actor Assassinated the President?’ (Mediaite)

Johnny Depp is the latest celebrity to joke about the assassination of President Trump.

Introducing a film at the Glastonbury Festival, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor delved into American politics.

“I think Trump needs help,” he said, in remarks reported by The Telegraph. “There are a lot of dark places he could go.”

Then he uttered a remark that even he, in a moment of self-awareness, seemed to know would get attention.

“I’m not insinuating anything – by the way this will be in the press and it will be horrible – but when was the last time an actor assassinated a president?”

He responded to loud cheers, “Just to clarify, I’m not an actor, I lie for a living.”

Depp’s comments come just weeks after Kathy Griffin (who posed with Trump’s severed blooded head in a photoshoot) and Shakespeare in the Park’s production of Julius Caesar ( which depicted Trump’s assassination), both came under heavy criticism. Such rhetoric has become the topic of conversation, especially after last week’s assassination attempt on Republican lawmakers. Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) is still recovering at the hospital.
