Scott Pruitt: ‘We See Optimism’ in the Coal Mining Sector

‘There’s investment taking place’

EXCERPT:

GEIST: “Last month the coal industry generated 400 jobs and since the last quarter 1,700 jobs, so where do you get your numbers of 50,000?"
PRUITT: "The Bureau of Labor Statistics has — the mining sector as a whole has identified —"
GEIST: "Including several industries there?”
PRUITT: “Last time I checked, you mine coal.”
GEIST: "But there are other mining industries, too — aluminum, copper...”
PRUITT: “Across a broad section in the mining sector. But, Willie, there’s optimism in that sector. There’s investment taking place. When you look at Japan, they have 45 ultra-critical coal generation facilities. We have one. We need to focus on that as a nation. Again, to focus on energy security and stability.”
